Dialogue Studio: Emily Mcnally

The work we imitated previously was Emma McNally‘s work. She’s really interesting and we imitated her style in the way that it created a sort of abstract map.

Her work looks like that of an astronomical type, and something out of this world.
A lot of her work is based on sound too, which I find really interesting, because people often use visuals to aid their work.

Another person the previous work reminded me of was of Chris Jordan‘s work we heard about in a lecture; “from Running the Numbers, An American Self Portrait 2006-current.”

The picture “depicts 11,000 jet trails, equal to the number of commercial flights in the US every eight hours.”

I like how at first the image just looks like a bunch of lines, scrawls and scribbles, but upon looking closer you can see the planes. It’s also really interesting looking at the separate jet trails, something which I feel like you could look at for a long time, since there are so many of them and they’re going in many different directions.

I really like both of their works, because they’re so abstract and very detailed, yet so simple.
